Government appoints Executive Director of Urban Renewal Authority

The Government announced today (July 14) that the Chief Executive has, on the recommendation of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) Management, appointed Mr Michael Ma Chiu-tsee as Executive Director of the URA from July 15, 2016 to July 14, 2017.

Mr Ma joined the URA in 2006 and is currently Director, Planning and Design. As Executive Director, Mr Ma will support the URA Managing Director in corporate policy formulation and implementation under the guidance of the URA Board.

"The appointment has been made on the recommendation of the URA Management following a review of the manpower situation of its senior management. Mr Ma is a veteran town planner. He is well versed with the whole range of the URA's operation, and has played an instrumental role in taking forward many key projects. We would like to congratulate Mr Ma for his new appointment, and look forward to working closely with him in his new capacity in a joint effort to advance the important cause of urban renewal," the Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, said.

A brief biography of Mr Ma is as follows:

Mr Ma holds a master's degree from the Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning, University College London and is a qualified professional town planner.

Mr Ma joined the Hong Kong Government in 1980 and has served in the Planning Department, the former Port Development Board and the former Housing Bureau.
