DEVB's response

Regarding a report of Apple Daily today (August 12) on the planning for a site at Tseung Kwan O Area 137 which said in the headline that a confidential document reveals that the Chief Executive has grabbed a landfill site for residential development despite it being assessed by two departments as having low potential for such purpose, a spokesman for the Development Bureau clarified again that the residential site being studied by the Government is not located at the landfill, but at a short-term "fill bank" currently being used for placing construction and works wastes.

In its response posted on Facebook yesterday, the bureau pointed out that the headlines, the video clip and the text of a related report on Apple Daily's online news are self-contradictory, confusing and misleading. We regret that the same misleading headline was used by Apple Daily today.

In fact, the bureau has clearly stated in its reply to the newspaper's enquiry about Tseung Kwan O Area 137 on July 24 that the Government has to adopt a multi-pronged approach in its land supply strategy to meet the continuous demand for land for housing, economic and social developments in Hong Kong. This involves conducting land use reviews from time to time on different types of land in different districts, and implementing planning and development projects to increase land supply for Hong Kong's development needs in the short, medium and long terms.
