Heritage Fiesta 2013 to open in September

The Commissioner for Heritage's Office of the Development Bureau will once again host the Heritage Fiesta in September and October. Notable historic school buildings will be open to the public to showcase the rich heritage of Hong Kong.

The annual Heritage Fiesta has received tremendous support from the public since its inauguration in 2011. This year, the event will feature 17 historic school buildings and 13 study halls in Hong Kong which are either declared monuments or graded buildings.

"Many historic buildings are well preserved in Hong Kong, including colonial-style Western school buildings and traditional study halls with Chinese architectural features. Heritage Fiesta 2013 is a great opportunity for the public to understand and appreciate these valuable historic buildings in the city," a spokesman for the Development Bureau said today (August 26).

Heritage Fiesta 2013 will take place from September 1 to October 31. All participating historic buildings will be open to the public during specific opening hours. Admission to all schools and study halls except the Fong Yuen Study Hall will be free of charge. Some of the participating schools and study halls will offer free guided tours on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors are also encouraged to collect special stamps at the participating schools and study halls as they complete their journey of heritage exploration.

An exhibition displaying photos of featured historic buildings will also be held at Pacific Place in Admiralty from September 9 to 15 as a launch activity.

Complimentary pamphlets on Heritage Fiesta 2013 will be distributed at the featured historic buildings during the event period. Pamphlets will also be available at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Museum of Tea Ware in Central, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Sha Tin and the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok.
