DEVB launches "Be Our Greening Partner" Campaign (with photo)
The "Be Our Greening Partner" Campaign organised by the Development Bureau was launched today (May 25). The key events of the Campaign include the "Greening Partner Charter" and a range of public engagement activities such as community tree surveillance talks, landscape design seminars, tree appreciation visits and Old and Valuable Tree guided tours.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, the Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, said, "The Government has been promoting greening, tree care and public participation in associated activities. The 'Be Our Greening Partner' Campaign aims to engage members of the public and organisations in contributing to a green environment."
He pointed out that community involvement not only fosters love and care for trees and a green environment, but also enhances public knowledge of tree management and injects positive energy into the building and sustaining of a beautiful green environment in our community.
"Better knowledge of trees among the general public facilitates more effective management of trees within private land. It also enables the public to identify problematic trees in the community and report them to the relevant departments, so that appropriate and prompt actions can be taken to minimise the risk and damage of tree failure," he added.
A seminar was held after the launch ceremony with five tree experts sharing their knowledge on tree care and management. Also attending the ceremony today were the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Wai Chi-sing; members of the Community Involvement Committee on Greening and the Expert Panel on Tree Management; and the Greening Partners.
One of the key activities of the Campaign is the launching of the "Greening Partner Charter". Interested parties can subscribe to this Charter as organisations or individuals, pledging to join and promote the Campaign for a quality green environment and better tree management in Hong Kong and working together towards this common goal.
