EMSD completes inspection of lifts maintained by Shineford

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) has completed the inspection of 248 lifts maintained by Shineford Engineering Limited today (March 5).

Among them, eight units are removed from services for repair as they fail to comply with the following requirements under the Code of Practice (COP) for Lift Works and Escalator Works. The removal from service is not due to safety considerations. The EMSD will analyse the inspection result and then take follow-up action.

Meanwhile, the EMSD will continue the in-depth investigation of the lift incident in King's Road, North Point to find out the cause of the incident. The EMSD will strictly enforce the legislation, including taking disciplinary action against the registered contractor and related persons violating the regulations, so as to ensure the lift safety.

On the other hand, the EMSD will adopt the risk assessment methodology to increase the frequency of inspections on those registered contractors with lower performance.
