EMSD investigates lift incident at 480 King's Road in North Point

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) is very concerned about a rope breakage lift incident at 480 King's Road, North Point. It is conducting an in-depth investigation to identify the cause of the incident.

The EMSD received a report from the Fire Services Department at about 8pm yesterday (March 2) about a lift entrapment incident at the above site. The EMSD officers immediately conducted an on-site investigation.

It was found that a lift carrying seven passengers dropped suddenly after it had reached the first floor from the ground floor. The trapped passengers were later rescued by the firemen and taken to hospital.

The EMSD's preliminary findings at the site revealed that all the four suspension ropes were broken. The safety protection system did not function to stop the lift as it is designed to, which was a very rare case.

The EMSD today (March 3) will inspect all the lifts maintained by Shineford Engineering Limited to ensure their safe operation.
