Performance ratings of registered lift contractors and registered escalator contractors updated

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (March 12) announced the results of the Contractors' Performance Rating (CPR) of registered lift contractors for the past 12 months (from March 2011 to February 2012) and registered escalator contractors for the past nine months (from June 2011 to February 2012) on the EMSD website (www.emsd.gov.hk/emsd/eng/pps/le_pub_mpr.shtml).

A total of 36 registered lift contractors with marks ranging from 50 to 100 are listed in the CPR results, with 11 contractors having received the full mark of 100. The EMSD has also updated on its website the records of lift incidents related to equipment failure, and a summary of warning letters issued to registered lift contractors in the same period. In the past quarter from December 2011 to February 2012, the EMSD issued warning letters to seven registered lift contractors, namely ThyssenKrupp Elevator (HK) Limited; Sigma Elevator (HK) Ltd.; Sun Fai Engineering & Equipment Co., Ltd.; Techfaith Engineering Limited; Chun Ming Elevator Co. Ltd.; Chun Ming Engineering Co. Ltd.; and Nikkin Lifts & Escalators Limited. In addition, there were three reported lift incidents related to equipment failure in the quarter.

With regard to the CPR of registered escalator contractors implemented since September 2011, the results have also been updated. For the period from June 2011 to February 2012, a total of 19 contractors with marks ranging from 50 to 100 are listed, with 15 contractors having obtained the full mark of 100. The EMSD has posted on its website the records of escalator incidents related to equipment failure, and a summary of warning letters issued to the registered escalator contractors in the same period. There was one reported escalator incident related to equipment failure in the past quarter from December 2011 to February 2012.

To enable the public to understand the performance of registered contractors, the EMSD has updated its webpage for announcing the performance results of registered contractors. When the name of any registered contractor is selected, the user can immediately access all information regarding the performance of that contractor, including CPR results, reported equipment fault incidents, warning letters issued to the contractors, records of prosecution and disciplinary cases.

"The new webpage can enable the owners and their building management companies to acquire the performance ratings of registered contractors so as to select suitable contractors for maintaining and repairing their lifts and escalators. The EMSD will continue to closely monitor the contractors' performance as well as liaise with the trade to further enhance the CPR scheme regularly," an EMSD spokesman said.
