In response to media enquiries about the information that rooftop glass houses erected on New Territories Exempted Houses could be retained, a spokesman for the Development Bureau said today (June 13) that all rooftop structures which exceeded the height restriction of village houses were unauthorised building works (UBWs). There will be no consideration for amnesty or legalisation of UBWs. But given the large volume of UBWs involved, the government will handle the problem through categorisation and enforcement in stages, while public safety will be ensured.
The Development Bureau will consult the Panel on Development of the Legislative Council on UBWs in New Territories village houses on June 28, and will continue discussion with Heung Yee Kuk.
