Voluntary recall of two models of Philips hair dryers (with photos)

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (May 31) urged consumers to stop using two models of Philips hair dryers for safety reasons.

According to the supplier, Philips Electronics Hong Kong Limited, the hair dryers in question may in very rare cases get overheated if left connected to the power supply for a prolonged period, posing a potential fire risk even when switched off and not in use.

The hair dryers are of model numbers HP4931 and HP4940, embossed with week codes 0832-1104 and 0808-1023, respectively. They were manufactured between February 2008 and January 2011 and supplied to the Hong Kong market. The supplier has initiated a voluntary recall and will post notices announcing free replacement in newspapers today and tomorrow (June 1).

For details of the recall, consumers should call the hotline of Philips Electronics Hong Kong Limited at 2145 5112 or visit the company's website at www.philips.com.hk/replace.
