WSD invites applications for reservoir fishing licences

Anglers wishing to indulge their hobby in local reservoirs during the fishing season must apply for a licence from the Water Supplies Department (WSD).

The licence will be valid for three years at a fee of $24. Reservoirs are open for fishing from September 1 to March 31 of the following year.

Applications can be made during office hours (9am to 5.15pm) from Monday to Friday at the following two Customer Enquiry Centres of the department:

* Wan Chai Customer Enquiry Centre - First floor, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong; and

* Mong Kok Customer Enquiry Centre - Ground floor, 128 Sai Yee Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon.

Alternatively, applications may be made by post to the department's headquarters at 43/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. The application should include the applicant's name and address, a photocopy of his/her identity card or passport, a crossed cheque for $24 payable to "The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region" and a self-addressed stamped envelope. No licence will be issued to people under the age of 13.

Anglers must observe the rules under their fishing licences. Each licence is good for the use of one rod and line only. The use of nets or other fishing appliances is not allowed. Boats, dinghies and rafts are not permitted in the reservoirs. The use of explosive or toxic substances to catch or kill fish is also strictly prohibited.

Before going fishing, anglers should pay attention to the weather forecasts issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. They should monitor weather changes during fishing and take heed of the Observatory's announcements or warnings regarding tropical cyclones, strong monsoons, rainstorms, thunderstorms, flooding, landslips and other severe weather conditions.
