EMSD investigates lift incident at Ka Ming Court in Sham Shui Po

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) is investigating a rope breakage lift incident at Ka Ming Court, 688-690 Castle Peak Road, Sham Shui Po.

The department received a report from the Fire Services Department at around 5.45pm yesterday (September 9) concerning a fire incident in the lift machine room at Ka Ming Court, Sham Shui Po. EMSD officers conducted a site inspection immediately.

A follow-up investigation by EMSD officers today revealed that one of the five suspension ropes of Lift No. 2 in the building was found to be broken. There was no injury in the incident.  

Chung Ming Elevator Company Limited is the maintenance contractor of the lift concerned. The last annual examination was conducted on August 7, 2010.

To ensure public safety, the lift maintenance contractor has conducted a safety check of the other three lifts in the building to confirm their safe operation.

The maintenance contractor is required to submit an incident report to the EMSD within seven working days (on or before September 20).
