Civil Engineering and Development Department to award contract for riverwall at Tai O and ancillary improvement works (with photo)

The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (August 11) awarded a contract of about $99 million for the construction of a riverwall at Yat Chung, Tai O, and ancillary improvement works.

The main objective of the works is to alleviate the flooding risk in Wing On Street and areas to the south of Tai Ping Street due to high tides under average meteorological conditions, with the construction of a 200-metre riverwall at Yat Chung and the implementation of ancillary improvement measures at strategic locations along the two streets.

Other works under the contract include the provision of drainage and sewerage systems behind the riverwall, upgrading of the temple garden in front of Kwan Tai Temple and improvement to the signage within the inner core area of Tai O.

The works are scheduled to commence this month and will take about 22 months to complete. The works will create 150 jobs in the construction industry.

The works were designed by Mannings (Asia) Consultants Limited, which will also supervise the construction.
