The Government announced today (June 15) the appointment of three non-official co-opted members and one official co-opted member to the Advisory Committee on Revitalisation of Historic Buildings to assist the Development Bureau and the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau in the selection of proposals received to transform the Former Police Married Quarters Site on Hollywood Road (PMQ) into a creative industries landmark. The appointments will take immediate effect until the completion of the selection exercise.
The Advisory Committee, comprising mainly non-officials, was set up in 2008 to provide advice to the Secretary for Development (SDEV) on the revitalisation of historic buildings under the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme and to help the Government monitor the operation of the selected projects. The Advisory Committee also advises on other matters relating to the revitalisation of historic buildings as referred by SDEV. The PMQ project is a key component of the "Conserving Central" initiative announced by the Chief Executive in his 2009-10 Policy Address. The Advisory Committee will provide advice for the project's operator selection exercise.
A government spokesman said, "Since the PMQ project is positioned to transform into a creative industries landmark in Hong Kong, with the Advisory Committee's experience in assessing the revitalisation proposals for quite a number of historic buildings and complemented by the participation of co-opted experts from the creative industries, we are confident that we will be able to select the best proposal for this important project."
