Contract for replacement and rehabilitation of water mains in East Kowloon awarded (with photo)

The Water Supplies Department today (September 23) awarded a $204 million contract for the replacement and rehabilitation of about 18 kilometres of aged water mains with diameter ranging from 20 to 1,200 millimetres in Kwun Tong, Kowloon City, Wong Tai Sin, San Po Kong and To Kwa Wan of East Kowloon.

The contract, to be completed in 2013, is the 12th of the 14 contracts to be awarded under stage 3 of the territory-wide water mains replacement and rehabilitation programme.  The stage 3 works, covering replacement and rehabilitation of about 800 kilometres of water mains, is scheduled for completion by 2013.  

The whole programme, covering replacement and rehabilitation of about 3,000 kilometres of water mains, is scheduled to be completed by 2015 and will create about 7,200 jobs in the construction industry, of which 1,950 are for the stage 3 works.
