Secretary for Development visits Kowloon City (with photos)The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (February 13) visited Kowloon City and met with Members of the District Council.
Accompanied by the District Officer, Miss Winky So, Mrs Lam went to Kam Po Building in Sa Po Road and visited an owner-occupier to learn about the building maintenance works undertaken.
Mrs Lam was told that the building had formed an Owners' Corporation with assistance of the District Office and had recently carried out large scale building maintenance works with subsidy under the Building Maintenance Incentive Scheme managed by the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS).
Mrs Lam was glad to know that the general safety and environmental conditions had greatly improved when the renovation was completed in January this year.
Joined by the Chairman of the Kowloon City District Council, Mr Wong Kwok-keung, and District Councillor, Mr Ng Po-keung, Mrs Lam took a walk in the district’s city centre in Hau Wong Road where she chatted with shop owners to understand their business situation.
Before concluding the visit, Mrs Lam met with Members of the Kowloon City District Council to exchange views on the latest developments in the district. Mrs Lam assured Members that while the Government was embarking upon the Kai Tak Development, one of the 10 major infrastructure outlined by the Chief Executive, improvements would be made to the older areas in the district, particularly in building maintenance and greening work.
