Appointment of the Construction Industry Council

The Government today (February 1) announced the setting up of the Construction Industry Council and the appointment of Mr Keith Kerr as its chairman.  Mr Kerr was the Chairman of the Provisional Construction Industry Co-ordination Board (PCICB), the precursor of the council.

Twenty-four members of the council were also appointed.  These are major industry stakeholders including employers, professionals or consultants, contractors, subcontractors, materials and equipment suppliers, people representing training institutes or academic or research institutions, as well as people who are from trade unions representing construction workers. Three public officers were also appointed to the Council.

As the industry co-ordinating body, the Construction Industry Council will forge consensus on long-term strategic issues, convey industry needs and aspirations to Government, as well as provide a communication channel for Government to solicit advice on all construction-related matters.  It will build on the foundation laid by PCICB and continue to pursue the reform initiatives advocated by the Construction Industry Review Committee.

The chairman and members were all appointed for a term of one year by the Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works pursuant to the powers conferred by the Construction Industry Council Ordinance.  The membership of the council is as follows:
