Exhibition on slope safety and Route 9 (Tsuen Wan section) in Tuen Mun

The Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) of the Civil Engineering and Development Department will stage a five-day exhibition on slope safety at On Ting Shopping Centre in Tuen Mun from tomorrow (November 30).

The exhibition will open from 10am to 6pm daily. Through colourful display panels, a video show and an information kiosk, it will convey to visitors the importance of slope safety and proper maintenance and precautionary measures during heavy rain. Information on landslides and landslip warnings will be on display.

A geotechnical engineer from the Community Advisory Unit of Geotechnical Engineering Office will meet the public on site from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday (December 2) to answer questions on slope safety and slope maintenance. Interesting quiz games will be held at the same time to help the public understand more about slope safety and greening. Members of the public who have questions about slope safety and slope maintenance can call the Citizen's Easy Link 1823. They are also welcome to browse the Hong Kong Slope Safety website at http://hkss.cedd.gov.hk for slope safety information.

The exhibition will also highlight the department's work in the construction of Route 9 section between Shek Wai Kok and Chai Wan Kok in Tsuen Wan. When the new route is completed, the projected journey time between Tuen Mun Road and Shing Mun Tunnel will be greatly reduced. It will also help relieve the present traffic congestion in Tsuen Wan Town Centre. Information about the project will be on display.

Ends/Wednesday, November 29, 2006
