The Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works (SETW), Dr Sarah Liao today (November 14) visited Wong Tai Sin District to get a first hand understanding of local environmental and transport issues.
Accompanied by Legislative Councillor, the Hon Chan Kam-lam and local dignitaries including Chairman of the Wong Tai Sin District Council, Mr Wong Kam-chi, and Vice-Chairman, Mr Kan Chi-ho, Dr Liao spent time at the Tze Wan Shan Road and Lung Cheung Road areas to observe traffic conditions and listen to views on how improvements could be made.
They also discussed the noise pollution problem in the vicinity of Lung Cheung Road and examined whether certain sections of this busy road could be resurfaced with noise reducing material again to minimise the noise impact on residents, where noise barriers could not be erected for technical and road safety reasons.
The party also went to the Kai Tak Nullah and were briefed on plans to deck the upstream section of this open nullah at a cost of $487 million.
Dr Liao said the project would be a complicated one, involving the demolition of the existing open nullah and reconstruction of a box culvert. Officers of the Drainage Services Department agreed that careful environmental and traffic assessments would be made at the design stage and the public would be consulted.
Before finishing her visit, Dr Liao had a discussion session with local dignitaries on the latest developments in the district.
