Contract awarded to improve drainage works in New Territories North

The Drainage Services Department today (September 23) awarded a $118-million contract to Maeda Corporation for the expansion of Shek Wu Hui Sewage Treatment Works and upgrading of Ting Kok Road Pumping Station No. 5.

The works include increasing treatment capacity of Shek Wu Hui Sewage Treatment Works from 80,000 to 93,000 cubic metres per day, and upgrading the pumping capacity of Ting King Road Pumping Station No.5 to 11,500 cubic metres per day.

Upon completion of the works, the treatment capacity of Shek Wu Hui Sewage Treatment Works will be able to meet the development needs in Sheung Shui and Fanling areas. At the same time, the Ting Kok Road Pumping Station No. 5 will have adequate pumping capacity to serve the developments in Ting Kok Road. The construction works will help improve the environment in Sheung Shui, Fanling and Tai Po.

The works will start on Monday (September 26) for completion in early 2009.
