Ceremony to kick start Penny's Bay infrastructure works

The Secretary for Works, Mr Lee Shing-see, the Director of Civil Engineering, Dr Lau Ching-kwong, and the President of China State Construction Engineering Corporation, Mr Sun Wenjie, today (January 29) officiated at the commencement ceremony of the infrastructure works in Penny's Bay.

The infrastructure works contract, which was tendered out by the Civil Engineering Department in late October 2001 at a total cost of HK$2.1 billion, is the first and one of the most important contracts for the infrastructure development of the Disneyland project.

One of the highlights of this contract is the construction of a huge amount of high quality landscaping features to complement the overall infrastructure works of the whole area in an integrated and coherent manner.

Also, six other projects worth about HK$3 billion will start progressively in the period from the second half of 2002 to 2004. Phase 1 of the Penny's Bay infrastructure works are expected to be completed in 2005, to tie in with the theme park project of the Hong Kong International Theme Parks Limited.
