Recall of power cord of CD portable radio cassette recorders

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (February 28) urged consumers to immediately stop using the power cord of four models of Sanyo CD portable radio cassette recorder for safety reason.

In the course of the department's regular surveillance duty, EMSD spotted an overseas recall announcement of the power cord concerned. Subsequently, prompt action has been taken to coordinate with the local service agent of Sanyo products, Sanyo Technical Service (H.K.) Limited to arrange the recall.

It was reported that the plug fitted to the power cord has a remote chance that the front cover might come loose from the 3-pin base when being removed from a mains socket. This could expose the live contacts giving rise to risk of an electric shock.

The recalled power cords were supplied with four models of Sanyo CD portable radio cassette recorder including MCD-ZX700F, MCD-ZX390F, MCD-ZX350F and MCD-Z89F.

Consumers who are in possession of these products are advised to take the following precautionary measures : switch off the power to the mains socket before removing the plug and, return the power cord to the supplier through designated outlets. If in doubt, assistance from a Registered Electrical Contractor/ Worker should be sought. The supplier will provide a new power cord as replacement.

Details of the recall can be obtained by calling the supplier's service hotline at 2610 2833.
