Expression of interest for temporary mixed construction waste sorting facilities

The Civil Engineering Department (CED) today (April 17) invites, on a non-committal basis, Expression of Interest (EOI) from interested organisations for setting up and operating two temporary mixed construction waste sorting facilities in Tseung Kwan O (TKO) and Tuen Mun (TM).

A spokesman for the CED said: " This invitation aims to solicit proposals to set up and operate the facilities in TKO Area 137 and TM Area 38 from interested organisation with no legal commitments on the parties concerned."

"Sorting mixed construction waste will help the construction industry to reduce the amount of waste disposed of at landfills thereby helping to extend their lifespan," the spokesman said.

Construction waste is a mixture of inert and non-inert wastes generated by local construction activities.

For the past three years, more than 7,200 tonnes of construction waste were disposed of at the landfills each day.

Interested organisations are invited to submit six copies of their proposals in a sealed envelope which is delivered by hand or post to the Port Works Division, 5/F., Civil Engineering Building, 101 Princess Margaret Road, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon before 12 noon on May 15, 2003.

Details of this EOI exercise are available from the Port Works Division of the CED at the above address. For enquires, please call 2762 5544 or by fax to 2714 0113.
