Advisory committee briefed on Lantau concept plan

The Land and Building Advisory Committee (LBAC) was briefed on the Concept Plan for Lantau Consultation Digest at its meeting today (February 17).

"Members were generally supportive of the Concept Plan and the proposals therein," Professor Yeung Yue-man, Chairman of the committee, said after the meeting. "They recognised the development potentials of Lantau and its positive impact on the economic development of Hong Kong."

"At the same time, members were mindful of the need for a coherent and balanced approach for the future of Lantau," Professor Yeung added. "They considered it necessary to strike a balance between economic development and the conservation of the island's nature and valuable cultural heritage."

The Lantau Development Task Force, chaired by the Financial Secretary, has launched a three-month public consultation to solicit public views on the concept plan for Lantau. The consultation exercise will last until February 28, 2005.

Ends/Thursday, February 17, 2005
