Managing Director and Executive Director of Urban Renewal Authority re-appointed

A Government spokesman announced today (December 31) that the Chief Executive has re-appointed Mr Billy Lam Chung-lun as the Managing Director of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) for a further term of three years with effect from tomorrow (January 1, 2005); and Mr Andrew Lam Siu-lo as the Executive Director for a further term of three years with effect from February 1, 2005.

Mr Billy Lam is the administrative head of the URA overseeing its overall operation. Mr Andrew Lam is responsible for the planning and development of the URA's urban renewal programme. Mr Billy Lam and Mr Andrew Lam have made valuable contributions to the URA in the past three years in taking forward a new urban renewal strategy comprising redevelopment, rehabilitation, preservation and revitalisation, and are instrumental to reviving various older urban districts.

Given their profound knowledge and experience, the re-appointment of Mr Billy Lam and Mr Andrew Lam will be conducive to providing solid support to the Authority in meeting the many challenges posed by our aging urban fabric.

"The incumbent Executive Director (Finance) of the URA, Mr Andy Lee Shiu-chuen, will leave the position after the expiry of his contract today (December 31)," the spokesman said. The Government thanks Mr Lee for his contribution to the URA's work during his tenure. The Executive Director (Finance) post will be retitled as Executive Director (Corporate and Commercial) for which an open recruitment exercise is being conducted.
