Government lobbying support for ex-gratia compensation

-->

In response to media enquiries, a Government spokesman said today (March 29) that the Government was still lobbying the Democratic Party and the Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong for support of a proposal to use a 7 years' old replacement flat as the basis for calculating the Home Purchase Allowance for owners when land is resumed. The reference to a "5 years' old replacement flat having been accepted by the Government" is not correct.

The spokesman said that the Urban Renewal Authority would be established as soon as possible if the proposed ex-gratia compensation package was approved by the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council tomorrow (March 30).
