West Kowloon Design Competition attracted 502 registrations

The Government received a total of 502 registrations, of which 169 are from Hong Kong, and 333 from elsewhere to participate in the West Kowloon Reclamation Concept Plan Competition when registration for interests closed at 5 p.m. today (June 8).

A breakdown of registrants by region according to their registered address is as follows: Asia - 241; Australia and New Zealand - 28; Europe - 126; USA and Canada - 103; and Central and South America - 4. A breakdown of registrants by region according to their registered address is shown in the appendix.

The Planning and Lands Bureau launched the West Kowloon Reclamation Concept Plan Competition on 6 April 2001 to invite conceptual proposals for the development of the 40-hectare waterfront site at the southern tip of the West Kowloon Reclamation into an integrated arts, cultural and entertainment district.

A spokesman for the Bureau said that for those who have registered, the deadline for enquiry by registrants is June 15.

"All enquiries by registrants and our responses will be uploaded to the Competition Website <<http://www.hplb.gov.hk/competition>>," the spokesman said.

He reminded that all submissions are expected to reach the organizer by 12:00 noon Hong Kong time on September 29, 2001.

"We plan to announce the result of the Competition in the first quarter of 2002," he added.
