West Kowloon concept competition deadline approaches

The Government has reminded potential participants that the deadline for entries to the West Kowloon Reclamation Concept Plan Competition is noon on September 29, 2001 in Hong Kong.

At the same time, it has announced special arrangements for submissions dispatched to Hong Kong by air in the light of the longer delivery time for parcels currently being experienced following the terrorist attacks in the United States.

Submissions from registrants based outside Hong Kong that are dispatched by air on or before September 26 will be accepted as meeting the deadline if they arrive after September 29, provided that proof of the date of dispatch is available as a postmark or on an accompanying shipping document.

A spokesman for the Planning and Lands Bureau today (September 21) said that its decision took into account that many potential participants overseas will have programmed their work for dispatch shortly before the deadline and might now, for unprecedented reasons beyond their control, not be able to count on timely delivery.

The spokesman said that the special arrangements had been posted on the competition website <<http://www.hplb.gov.hk/competition>>.

The Planning and Lands Bureau launched the West Kowloon Reclamation Concept Plan Competition on April 6, 2001 to invite conceptual proposals for the development of the 40-hectare waterfront site at the southern tip of the West Kowloon Reclamation into an integrated arts, cultural and entertainment district.

The Government received a total of 502 registrations from potential participants, of which 169 are from Hong Kong and 333 from elsewhere.

The result of the competition will be announced in the first quarter of 2002.
