Consultation extended for Urban Renewal Authority Bill

A spokesman for the Planning, Environment and Lands Bureau announced today (Tuesday) the extension of the public consultation period for the Urban Renewal Authority Bill to December 31, 1999.

The purpose of the Bill, which was published as a White Bill on October 22, is to introduce a new and proactive approach to urban renewal, with the aim of improving our urban environment through comprehensive urban redevelopment and rehabilitation.

"In response to public request, we are extending the consultation period to December 31 so that the public can have more time to study the Bill and offer their views," the spokesman said.

Members of the public are invited to send written comments to the Planning, Environment and Lands Bureau at the following address:

By post: 9th Floor, Murray Building, Garden Road, Central

By e-mail: <urabill@pelb.gov.hk>

The consultation document is available at all District Offices and through the Planning, Environment and Lands Bureau's Homepage at <http://www.hplb.gov.hk>.
