Appointment of interim Managing Director of Urban Renewal Authority extended

The Government announced today (April 14) that the Chief Executive has extended the appointment of Mr Daniel Lam Chun as Managing Director of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) to June 14, 2016, pending the appointment of a new Managing Director through open recruitment.

Mr Lam was appointed in June 2015 as Managing Director of the URA for an interim period of 10 months. Prior to that, he had served as non-executive director of the URA Board for over six years and was one of the longest-serving non-executive directors of the Board.

"Mr Lam's exceptional leadership and extensive experience were invaluable to the URA's efforts in fulfilling its mission in urban renewal over the past year. In particular, he has spearheaded the commencement of the Bailey Street/Wing Kwong Street development project in Kowloon City, which is one of the largest redevelopment projects initiated by the URA in recent years," the Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, said.

"I am grateful to Mr Lam for his agreement to continue to lead the organisation while the open recruitment process is being finalised. This would ensure the smooth operation of the URA before a new Managing Director comes on board."

The Managing Director of the URA is the administrative head of the URA and Deputy Chairman of the URA Board.
