SDEV speaks to the media

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, at a media session after attending a radio programme today (June 20):

Reporter: (on funding applications in the Legislative Council given the current political situation)

Secretary for Development: It is not easy, but I hope after the settling of the political reform proposal, the entire community can now refocus on economic and livelihood issues which are very important to all of us, so that we can leave aside political differences and concentrate our energy on how to improve the livelihood of the people.

Reporter: ... If we cannot get funding from the Legislative Council ... we cannot get anything done ...

Secretary for Development: Not necessarily. As you may have noticed, they have approved our funding application for the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai project. We are also lining up different infrastructure projects and feasibility study funding applications to the LegCo (Legislative Council). We will continue to work very hard and engage the legislators about the importance of various projects.

Reporter: Were you surprised by what had happened in the LegCo in the voting?

Secretary for Development: I was. At that time I didn't know what had happened.
