SDEV welcomes report on policy review on conservation of built heritage

The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, welcomed the report released today (January 9) by the Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) on the policy review on the conservation of built heritage. He said the Government will thoroughly consider and follow up on the AAB's recommendations.

"I would like to express my gratitude to the AAB Chairman, Mr Andrew Lam; convenors of the working groups, Mr Stephen Chan, Professor Ho Puay-peng, Ms Lilian Law and Sr Wong Bay; and the other AAB members for their efforts in the past two years. The AAB comprises members with different professional backgrounds and experiences.  They have offered insightful analysis and policy direction on this complex subject of built heritage conservation.

"The Government will study carefully the recommendations of the AAB, which touch upon the work of different departments. The Development Bureau will co-ordinate their feedback and respond at an appropriate time," said Mr Chan.

In February 2013, the Secretary for Development invited the AAB to assist in the policy review on the conservation of built heritage. The AAB subsequently set up two working groups to study the subject from the policy, strategy and technical perspectives.
