SDEV to attend 2014 Mainland and Hong Kong Construction Industry Forum in Nanning

The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, will lead a delegation to Nanning tomorrow afternoon (November 9) to attend the 2014 Mainland and Hong Kong Construction Industry Forum. The theme of the forum is "Collaborative Development with a Global Perspective, Integrated Management with Innovative Technology".

Co-organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the forum aims to promote exchanges between the construction industries of the Mainland and Hong Kong on innovative technology and project management. It also seeks to foster ties and co-operation between the two places.

Mr Chan will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum on November 10. During the forum, speakers from the Mainland and Hong Kong will share their experiences in the technical development and application of high-quality innovative construction methods. They will also talk about collaboration between the construction industries of the two places.

During his visit, Mr Chan will also meet with officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. 

The delegation comprises about 130 members, including representatives from the Development Bureau, construction trade associations and professional institutions, as well as construction industry personnel and Legislative Council members, Dr Lo Wai-kwok and Mr Tony Tse.

Accompanying Mr Chan to the forum will be the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Wai Chi-sing; the Director of Civil Engineering and Development, Mr Hon Chi-keung; the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Enoch Lam; the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Frank Chan; the Director of Drainage Services, Mr Daniel Chung; the Deputy Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Chan Chi-ming; the Deputy Director of Architectural Services, Mr Stephen Tang; the Deputy Director of Buildings, Mr Cheung Tin-cheung, and the Project Manager of the Major Works Project Management Office of the Highways Department, Mr Jimmy Chan.

Mr Chan will go to Beijing on November 11 and accompany the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, in his visits to central ministries on November 12. 

Mr Chan will depart Beijing in the evening on November 12 for Hong Kong. During his absence, the Under Secretary for Development, Mr Eric Ma, will be the Acting Secretary for Development.
