SDEV to lead Lantau Development Advisory Committee on study tour of Pearl River port cities

The Secretary for Development (SDEV) and Chairman of the Lantau Development Advisory Committee, Mr Paul Chan, will lead a delegation of the Committee to Nansha in Guangzhou, Jiangmen, Zhongshan, and Hengqin in Zhuhai tomorrow (April 10) for a two-day study tour of the cities' town planning and development projects.

Tomorrow, the delegation will first tour Nansha to study the city's development planning, leisure industry and science research facilities. Later, they will depart for Jiangmen and visit the Jiangmen Planning Exhibition Hall. They will also tour the new district of Binjiang and receive a briefing on the town planning of the district as well as Daguang Bay.

On Friday, the delegation will proceed to Zhongshan and visit the Zhong Shan Tsui Hang New District Planning Exhibition Centre and look at developments in the city. They will later head for Hengqin in Zhuhai, where they will visit the Hengqin Planning Exhibition Hall and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority.

During the two-day tour, the delegation will also meet with senior officials of Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Zhuhai to exchange views on infrastructure planning and development.

A total of 13 non-official members of the Lantau Development Advisory Committee will join the tour. Accompanying the delegation will be the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Wai Chi-sing; the Director of Planning, Mr Ling Kar-kan; the Project Manager (Hong Kong Island and Islands) of the Civil Engineering and Development Department, Mr Edwin Tong; and the Assistant Director (Environmental Assessment) of the Environmental Protection Department, Mr Tang Kin-fai.

The delegation will return to Hong Kong on Friday evening. During Mr Chan's absence, the Under Secretary for Development, Mr Eric Ma, will be the Acting SDEV.
