New Secretary for Development appointed (with photo)

The Central People's Government, on the nomination and recommendation of the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (July 30) approved the appointment of Mr Paul Chan Mo-po as the Secretary for Development (SDEV) and the removal of Mr Mak Chai-kwong from the post of SDEV.

The Chief Executive said, "Paul is devoted to serving the public and has been involved in various public duties for many years. He has outstanding leadership and co-ordination abilities. He is also familiar with the operation of the Legislative Council. I am pleased to have him join my political team."

Following is a brief biographical note on Mr Chan:

Aged 57. Mr Chan has just finished his term of office as the Legislative Council member of the Functional Constituency (Accountancy) and was the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2006. He was a Non-Official Member of the Commission on Strategic Development from 2005.
