Statement by SDEV on Tai Tong Lychee Valley

The Secretary for Development expressed grave concern over the obstruction by villagers to the operation arranged by the Lands Department to remove the structures erected on Government land at Tai Tong Lychee Valley today (May 21). She reiterated that the Government is firmly committed to carrying out land administration work.

Mrs Lam said that occupation of Government land in rural as well as in urban areas will be handled by the Lands Department on equal footing, and effective land control action will be taken to create deterrence effect and to stop further deterioration of the problem. In fact, the Government's land administration work is widely supported by the community. The Public Accounts Committee also clearly expressed this message when it earlier examined a report by the Director of Audit on land administration.

If staff of the Lands Department or its contractors are threatened or injured when carrying out land administration works, the Government will no doubt refer to the Police for follow-up action.
