LDAC considers merits of three land development projects

The Land and Development Advisory Committee (LDAC) considered the merits of three land development projects proposed by private and non-government organisation sectors at its third meeting today (January 12).

Project proponents included China Resources Properties Limited, the University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Red Cross.

The proposal submitted by China Resources Property Limited involved implementing city improvements works in Wan Chai North, taking the opportunity of its retrofitting and redevelopment of the China Resources Centre complex.

LDAC members gave support to the proposed project in view of its merits in improving the vehicular and pedestrian flows in the area. Members also supported the proposed upgrading works to the Harbour Road Garden by China Resources Properties Limited at its expense.

The LDAC was also presented with a proposal by the University of Hong Kong to convert or redevelop a former school building into a post-graduate hostel in Kennedy Town.

Members supported this project as it would help address the shortage of student hostel places.

Members recognised the merits of the proposed conversion approach, but they noted that it would require demolition of a considerable portion of the existing building to comply with the Building Ordinance. Members also noted that the Development Opportunities Office, in view of this constraint, would advise the University of Hong Kong that redevelopment was the necessary way forward for this project.

At the meeting today, LDAC members also supported the proposed relocation of Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) Headquarters from Harcourt Road in Admiralty to Hoi Ting Road in West Kowloon. The relocation would enable HKRC continue its full range of services to the community.
