Secretary for Development to attend ministers' forum on infrastructure in Singapore

The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, will depart for Singapore this Sunday (June 21) to attend the Seventh Ministers' Forum on Infrastructure Development in the Asia Pacific Region.

The forum, initiated by Japan in 1995, aims to provide ministers and senior officials with a unique international platform to discuss development strategies and policies, exchange views and share experiences in infrastructure development in the Asia Pacific region.

Ministers and officials from 19 countries and areas will take part in the forum this year under the theme "Integrating Water Infrastructure Planning with Sustainable Urban Development". Mrs Lam will give an address on Hong Kong's water infrastructure and water management plans at the Ministers' Roundtable.

Mrs Lam will also attend the opening ceremony of Singapore International Water Week 2009, which will be held alongside the forum from June 22 to 26.

The Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Mak Chai-kwong, and the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Ma Lee-tak, will also attend the two events.

During her stay in Singapore, Mrs Lam will take the opportunity to visit Marina Barrage, which is a dam built across the mouth of Marina Channel to create Singapore's 15th reservoir, Marina Reservoir. She will also visit a private company to learn about the latest technology for water purification and fluid treatment.

Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong on June 23.
