Secretary for Development sees urban planning and heritage conservation in Singapore (with photos)

The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, started her first-day official visit in Singapore today (March 5) to learn about Singapore's experience in urban planning and heritage conservation.

Mrs Lam met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), Mrs Cheong-Chua Koon Hean, and received a briefing on the city's land use planning and waterfront development, particularly on the Marina Bay area.

She visited the Marina Bay Financial Centre where she received a briefing by the management company on how the prime waterfront in the heart of Singapore's downtown was designed to house a blend of office towers, residential blocks and retail space in an environmental-friendly and sustainable manner. She also took a ride on the Singapore Flyer to get a bird's eye view of the city's latest development.

To get a better understanding of Singapore's heritage conservation efforts, Mrs Lam visited several revitalised heritage buildings and sites, including the Fullerton Hotel, Clifford Pier, Far East Square and the Clark Quay.

Before concluding today's visit, Mrs Lam paid a courtesy call on the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, Ms Zhang Xiaokang.
