Secretary for Development to attend World Urban Forum in Nanjing

The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, will depart for Nanjing on Sunday (November 2) to attend the Fourth Session of the World Urban Forum.

The forum, to be held at Nanjing International Exhibition Centre from November 3 to 6, is jointly organised by UN-Habitat and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the Central People's Government. The theme of the forum is harmonious urbanisation.

The World Urban Forum aims to examine rapid urbanisation and its impact on communities, cities, economies and policies.  It is a biennial gathering attended by government officials, non-government organisations, professionals and academics to discuss pressing urban issues and come up with action-oriented proposals.

Mrs Lam will participate in the Minister's Round Table discussion on November 3 and share with the participants the experience of Hong Kong in urban development.

Also attending the forum are the Director of Architectural Services, Mr Yue Chi-hang, the Deputy Director of Planning, Mr Jimmy Leung, and the Assistant Director (Heritage and Museums) of Leisure and Cultural Services, Dr Louis Ng.

During her stay in Nanjing, Mrs Lam will take the opportunity to visit the Nanjing 1912 Commercial Street and Nanjing 1865 Creativity Industrial Park to see how the historic buildings in these areas are preserved and revitalised. She will also meet officials of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
