Development Bureau's statement on CGO West Wing

In response to media enquiries about the redevelopment of the West Wing of the Central Government Offices (CGO) in Central, a spokesman for the Development Bureau said today (June 3) that the Expert Panel under the Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) has yet to formally submit its assessment and proposal regarding the CGO to AAB.

"We note that the Expert Panel has considered that the West Wing to be of lower architectural and historical merit than the Main and East Wing.

"This is in line with the conclusion of the historical and architectural appraisal study on CGO conducted by the UK conservation architects firm Purcell Miller Tritton in 2009.

"There is thus no intention to change the Government’s plan to preserve the higher-valued Main and East Wing for use by the Department of Justice, while demolishing the lower-valued West Wing for redevelopment.

"The Development Bureau hoped to announce details of the way forward within the month of June," the spokesman said.
