Storm surge may pose threat of flooding to low lying areas

As Typhoon Koppu is showing signs of further intensification, the Hong Kong Observatory has announced that it may bring storm surge that poses a threat of flooding to low lying areas.

It is possible that the areas which were affected by storm surge brought about by Typhoon Hagupit in September last year, including Tai O, Kar Wo Lei in Tuen Mun and Lei Yue Mun Praya Road etc, will be under threat of flooding.  Residents in these areas are advised to take precautionary measures to reduce damage.

The Drainage Services Department today (September 14) deployed additional manpower to closely monitor these low lying areas and put in place proper measures to minimise the flooding impact as far as possible.
