Two models of power adaptors recalled (with photos)

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (March 9) advised consumers to stop using two models of power adaptor for Philips portable DVD players and electronic photoframes for safety reasons.  The two models of power adaptor are:

1. DVE: DSA-9W-09FUK 090100
2. DVE: DSA-9W-05FUK 050150

These adaptors were manufactured in 2007 and 2008 respectively, and embossed with week codes from 3107 to 5307 and from 0108 to 4308 (The location of the week codes is shown in the attached photos).

According to Philips Electronics Hong Kong Ltd, these batches of adaptors have been supplied as accessories to its DVD players and electronic photoframes in Hong Kong since July 2007.  The welded joint at the back cover of these adaptors may be detached from the housing when pulled from the socket outlets, exposing live parts and posing a  potential electrical hazard to consumers.

Philips has initiated a voluntary recall of the affected adaptors and will announce the details of free replacement services today. For details of the free replacement services, consumers are advised to call Philips’ hotline on 2145 5112 or 2619 9663 during office hours (Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm).  Alternatively, consumers can visit Philips' website at (www.philips.com.hk).
