Historic buildings drawing contest application opens

Budding artists are invited to join a historic buildings drawing contest which aims to promote heritage awareness and encourage them to be creative in helping to conserve Hong Kong’s heritage.

Organised by the Development Bureau's Commissioner for Heritage's Office, the contest will be held at Liu Man Shek Tong Ancestral Hall in Sheung Shiu on March 21 and Central Police Station Compound on March 28.

The competition is divided into two categories, one for age 6 to 12 and the other 13 to 18. Budding artists can explore the relationship between heritage and the city through drawing at one of the designated historic buildings. Each participant can submit one piece of artwork on the drawing paper provided by the organiser on the competition day. Participants have to bring their own drawing instruments and paint.

The contest is now open for application. Application forms are available at www.heritage.gov.hk. Completed forms should be emailed to info@blink.com.hk, faxed to 3590 5218 or mailed to Unit 1003, 10/F, Lemmi Centre, 50 Hoi Yuen Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon by March 9. "Application for the Historic Buildings Drawing Competition" should be marked on the envelope.

Entries will be judged by Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Revitalisation of Historic Buildings, Mr Bernard Chan; member of the Advisory Committee, Mr Raymond Fung; Member of the Antiquities Advisory Board, Mr Bernard Lim; Commissioner for Heritage, Mr Jack Chan; and pop singer, Ms Fiona Sit. Each category offers First, Second and Third Prizes as well as 10 Awards of Merits.

The award presentation ceremony will be held at Wellcome Theatre, Bethanie, 139 Pok Fu Lam Road, Hong Kong on April 18.
