Secretary for Development attends Hong Kong Association luncheon (with photos)

The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, yesterday (May 12, London time) attended a lunch hosted by the Hong Kong Association in London and updated its members on the latest development of Hong Kong, in particular the Chief Executive's major infrastructural plans.

Established in 1961, the Hong Kong Association's mission is to act as a focus in the UK for cherishing and promoting the long-standing and special links between Hong Kong and the UK, in particular with regard to business and bilateral trade. The chairman of the association is Baroness Dunn.

On the second day of Mrs Lam's official visit to London, she also met Chairman of the Covent Garden Area Trust Mr Raymond Cooper in the morning to learn about the management and revitalisation of the Covent Garden Area, including the famous Covent Garden Market.

Mrs Lam visited Southwark Council in the afternoon and was briefed by council officials on the borough's two major urban regeneration plans to provide new business, social and community facilities.

Mrs Lam also made a courtesy call on the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Madam Fu Ying.

In the evening, Mrs Lam attended a dinner hosted by the Heung Yee Kuk and briefed the New Territories people who have settled in the UK on some of the latest developments in the New Territories, including the proposal for New Development Areas and the opening up of the frontier closed areas.

On the first day of her visit on Sunday (May 11), accompanied by Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in London Ms Sarah Wu, Mrs Lam visited Tate Modern and St Martin-in-the-Fields to see how these historic buildings and places were preserved and revitalised.

Also joining the official visit are the Commissioner for Heritage, Mr Jack Chan, and the Executive Secretary of Antiquities and Monuments Office, Mr Tom Ming.
