Secretary for Development visits Wan Chai District (with photos)
The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (January 18) visited Wan Chai district to learn about the latest developments there.
Accompanied by the District Officer, Mr William Yuen, Mrs Lam visited a special child care centre operated by Heep Hong Centre on Wan Chai Road and met with parents. The centre, providing intensive care and training to pre-school children with special needs, aims to help the children maximise their potential and lay a solid foundation for their further learning and development.
Mrs Lam went to Pak Sha Road to understand the area's development. She was told that buildings in the vicinity were mainly built in the 1950s and 1960s. With rapid commercial development in the area, most of these residential buildings were converted for new uses, such as service apartments or upstairs shops.
Mrs Lam then went to a Methodist Centre's office in Lockhart Road to visit trainees attending retraining courses for security guards/property management and domestic helpers. The centre was formerly a place serving the army and navy forces stationed in Hong Kong. In 1980, the Methodist Centre was set up and had evolved into a youth and education centre providing various educational facilities, training courses and employee retraining programmes.
Before ending her visit, Mrs Lam met members of the Area Committees and Kai Fong Associations of Wan Chai to exchange views on district development.
