Tapping water from fire service installations is illegal
The Water Supplies Department today (January 19) reminded the public not to illegally use water from fire service installations for non-fire fighting purposes.

"Offenders are liable to a maximum fine of $5,000," a spokesman for the department said.

The spokesman noted that four offenders had been fined in the range of $1,000 to $2,000 recently for taking water from fire service installations for washing purposes.

In addition, five contractors had been fined between $1,500 and $3,000 for illegally using water from the street hydrants for construction purpose in Jordan, Mong Kok, Kwai Shing, Tsing Yi and Hong Kong Island respectively.
