The Hong Kong economy has been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the unemployment rate of the construction industry continuously rising. The Government announced in June 2020 it would provide a total of 1750 places of salary subsidy with a view to encouraging and supporting employers of private organisations to employ graduates and assistant professionals of the engineering, architectural, surveying, town planning and landscape sectors.
The support measure is able to provide employment and training opportunities for graduates and assistant professionals of the relevant professional fields. It also helps retain talents and nurture successors continuously. There are two groups of subsidy under the support measure:
1) Training Subsidy for Graduates (Architectural, Surveying, Town Planning and Landscape Sectors)
2) Training Subsidy for Assistant Professionals (Engineering, Architectural, Surveying, Town Planning and Landscape Sectors)
Stage 1 Application of the support measure was closed on 18 July 2020. Having reviewed the number of salary subsidy places that the eligible applicants had applied for in Stage 1, the number of places was increased from 1750 to 2189. Stage 2 Application has commenced on 31 August 2020, applicants may submit the required information about their employees to take forward their applications. The deadline for Stage 2 Application is 30 November 2020.
