Background
Works Project Information Standard (WPIS) is a follow-up project recommended in a consultancy study on the exchange of project information and the provision of project delivery services through electronic communication channels.

- Efficient and reliable exchange of electronic project data
- Hong Kong construction industry de facto information standard
What is WPIS?
WPIS standardize
- the data components and the data structure of data domains used in construction industry
- the file format of data files
- the dissemination protocol for optional automatic dissemination of the received data files to receiver or, if any but not necessary, IT systems
- the data conversion protocol for conversion of WPIS compliant data files and proprietary data files (csv or pdf e-form), and vice versa
- WPIS is not an IT or database computer system. WPIS is a data standard comprising
- WPIS allows user to define his User Defined Data Domains (UDD) in case that the 24 WDDs could not meet his project usage.
Development strategy
WPIS went through the development cycle:
- Working Paper No. 1 - Base-lining/Prototype Standard
- Working Paper No. 2 - Draft standard
- Working Paper No. 3 - Final Standard
The Contractor, HP, supported by OAP will consult the WPIS Consulting Working Group on the Prototype Standard, Draft Standard and Final Standard.
