SDEV to visit Shanghai

The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, will pay a duty visit to Shanghai on December 13 and 14. He will attend the "Asia's World City: New Government, New Development" Seminar jointly organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China.

Mr Chan will deliver a keynote address at the seminar on December 13. He will talk about the new measures and initiatives introduced by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in the past few months, such as how planning policy helps to enhance sustainable development and quality of living in Hong Kong and how professionals in Hong Kong make use of opportunities in the Mainland.

Mr Chan will also meet with representatives of chambers of commerce and professionals from Hong Kong to learn about their business and work in Shanghai on the same day.

On December 14, Mr Chan will meet with representatives of the Shanghai Planning, Land and Resources Administration Bureau. He will visit the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center to learn about the latest planning initiatives in Shanghai.

Mr Chan will also visit 1933 Shanghai and The Bridge 8, which were converted from historic buildings. Built in 1933 and located in Hongkou District, 1933 Shanghai was originally a slaughterhouse run by the Shanghai Municipal Council. Restored in 2006 by the Shanghai Creative Industry Investment Company Ltd, 1933 Shanghai has been transformed into Shanghai's creative industry area where international brands have opened business and various arts and cultural activities are held.

The Bridge 8 is located in Huangpu District. It was converted from eight old factory buildings of the Shanghai Automobile Brakes Company Ltd. The revitalised buildings are linked with each other by bridges. It is now a renowned creative industry landmark in Shanghai.

Mr Chan will conclude his visit and return to Hong Kong in the morning of December 15.
