The Government announced today (April 1) that Dr Chan Hon-fai has been appointed as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Water Resources and Quality of Water Supplies (ACRQWS) for a two-year term from April 1, 2012, to March 31, 2014.
Fifteen incumbent members have been re-appointed, and 10 new members appointed. The appointments were made by the Secretary for Development.
The predecessor of the ACRQWS was the Advisory Committee on the Quality of Water Supplies, which was founded on April 1, 2000. In response to the growing expectations of the public on the conservation and management of water resources, the Government has expanded the scope of the Committee to cover water resources-related issues in addition to the quality of water supplies in Hong Kong.
